Colorful fruit is best to use along with the usual kinds of fruits. The fruit needs to be of the highest quality and organic fruit is a nice addition. You will want to use fruits that everyone loves like bananas, apples and oranges but also you an incorporate more interesting and unusual fruits like mangoes, kiwi and pineapple.
The container is usually a wicker basket but it does not have to be a basket. It can be something more creative or specific to the person who is receiving the gift. When building your basket put the biggest pieces on the bottom so you can add the other fruit in around it and build layers. Use the colored shredded paper as a kind of nest to hold the fruit.
To seal the gift basket and protect the fruit you need to use a heat-sealable plastic. This comes in a variety of patterns and colors but it needs to say that it is okay to use with perishable foods. The gift wrap should be cut three times larger than the basket.
Lay out the gift wrapping and put the basket in the middle of the wrapping. Then you ease the sides up to the center and at the top secure the plastic wrapping. When the paper is sealed you have created a gift bag.
Now you can make your gift unique by adding flowers, ribbon, bows, or any kind of special decorative touches that will make it look as pretty as it will taste. Taste is one of the best things about giving a fruit basket and it is also good healthy food. You can actually give the same gift to the same person over and over without it becoming a problem. It actually becomes a kind of tradition the person will look forward to because they are so tasty and refreshing.
If you do decide to give this gift often you will want to change it up some. You can add in flowers, nuts, or a special gift for the person that you can center in the basket and layer the fruit around the gift item. Or you could simply add beautiful flowers to make it even more spectacular.
