Let's Get Fancy! : What to Wear To A Formal Occasion
Many people may cringe at the idea of having to shop for a formal occasion such as: prom, a wedding reception, or formal dinner. We often picture flashes of bad 80s hair poofs, slinky black slip dresses and gaudy rhinestones shoes (don't get me wrong, this gal loves a rhinestone or two!). In this modern 'anything goes' time, it's easy to dress up when you get a little creative, and think outside the special occasion box. No one want to be uncomfortable, so let's talk about two formal looks that I call, 'sweet' and the other is 'sassy'. I'll let you choose what type of gal you are.

Who wants something sweet?
If you are a more modest gal who still wants a little sass, try a dress with an interesting detail and full a skirt. Don't be afraid to add a crinoline under the dress to command attention, and to make everyone move out of your way due to the massive circumference of your skirt.
Julie Ann paired the Amy Dress with grey mary jane style heels. The grey compliments the kitty pattern and the mary jane style shoes are too cute!
The Amy Dress in Grey Tammis Cats by Dolly Valentine is just the sweetest thing since sugar! Don't forgot to add a fun pop of color with the Full Bubblegum Pink Crinoline by Hell Bunny. This dress would be a nice option to wear to a formal dance or even a sock hop!
To accessorize and make this dress go from a cotton day dress to a formal occasion dress, I suggest the White Paris Lucite Box Purse by Lux de Ville. The purse will amp up the vintage aesthetic when paired with the Amy Dress. The pearl swirl lucite picks up the white kitties in the dress and adds a glamour reminiscent of old Hollywood starlet's.

Cats Like Us has a lot of lovely retro hair accessories to decorate your locks, but the Classic Birdcage Veil by my friend's at Topsy Turvy Design, would be so precious for your special occasion. The satin bow with birdcage veil is attached to a French clip, so it may be worn a variety of ways with your 40s waved coiffure or your Victory Rolls
Who wants some extra sass in their sassy?
I have to admit I'm a little sassy from time-to-time, and I love a nice long lean wiggle dress. The way a wiggle dress fits and forms over your curvalicious figure will definitely get you noticed, for all the right reasons. The Sexy Miranda Stripes Dress by Queen of Heartz is just what the doctor ordered; the veritical stripes are very slimming, the satin bow sash adds some visual appeal (and can hide problem areas!), and the gathered bust line would look nice for any size bust. Since this is a more mature look, you may want to pair the dress with a camisole underneath for prom or high school formals. Cats Like Us doesn't want you to you into too much trouble. *Wink*
Julie Ann is sexy in the Miranda Dress! We paired it with black patent peep toe heels, black beaded necklace, and black 1950s vintage veiled hat.
To really bring out the satin sash detail, I would pair the Sexy Short Gloves in black by Leg Avenue with the Miranda Dress. There is something about a nice pair of evening gloves that adds a formal detail and an element of elegance.
Another way to create some visual interest is with hosiery. The Rhinestone Fishnet Pantyhose by Leg Avenue are very dressy with the rhinestoned details on the back seam. Don't be afraid to mix the stripes of the dress with a smaller fishnet, it screams sultry siren! Remember, it's all in the details!
