What is the difference between sterling silver and silver?
i got a ruby ring from kay jewelers and the silver color is peeling off sorta. I just got it last month and idk if it is sterling silver or silver, i dont know that difference but i thought since this is real jewelery it should not be changing colors or wearing out ive only had it for about a month and this shouldnt be happening.

check your ring whether it has a 925 stamp. In that case it is sterling silver and should not peel at all. If it doesn't have a stamp it might be costume jewelry, which is some sort of cheap metal that is plated with silver or rhodium or white gold. That can rub off or in case of rhodium could also peel off. The term 'silver' really only refers to the color, nothing else. Any solid/precious metal need to have some sort of stamp to prove what it is.
One more thing, sometimes, sterling silver is rhodium plated. That could still peel off, but the metal underneath should be stamped 925 for sterling silver and should have the right color.
Best idea would be to bring it back and find out exactly what the metal is.
